Thank you Michael but damn it... Beaten to the punch again, this time by the Taoists ha ha ha. Actually I remember reading about Wu Wei many years ago but I will revisit since it might mean more to me now in my purposeless older age!! When younger I was too keen to try and be something great without realising or appreciating that I already was something great 🙂
“When younger I was too keen to try and be something great without realising or appreciating that I already was something great.” — l love this, April!
I think I’m still struggling with an urge to do or be great, it’s something I have to remind myself not to get caught up in. And so, your comment on making peace with that is very inspiring.
As for being beaten to the lunch again, I’d say it’s closer to great minds — yours and the likes of taoists sages — think alike :)
I accept that we cannot be anywhere other than where we are, so I could not have come to this knowledge without years of mistakes, but nevertheless, I would love to have accepted it at your age rather than mine!! The greatest power we have comes from that acceptance and also the greatest joy. When younger I thought that acceptance was a defeatest doormat type attitude, it most certainly isn't.
Isn't it great that me, the taoist sages, Jung and Shakespeare all have come to the same thoughts ha ha ha......
I believe the 'correct' answer here is to stop 'working on it' 😂 But I say 'fuck that - analyse the shit out of it for a few years because that part is fun too'
I love getting into the minds of others and a poet lets us into their mind. I love it that one other "thinks things". Did you know the squirrel is a mercurial symbol of the ability to talk to the highest and lowest 'personalities'
Did you know that squirrels are, reportedly, able to lose about 80% of what they store with equanimity?! (And squirrel spotted in the leaves, tail facing us.)
This has hints of Conversation with a Stone by Wisława Szymborska, with your own dynamic aliveness to it.
Thank you Guy 🙏 and good squirrel spotting! I love how that comment makes me feel about squirrels! ha ha, for all their quick intensity, to believe they are so chill and relaxed. Yes, reading that poem made me think about discussing the meaning of life with nature!
this provided with some much needed solace, thank you for sharing! i started school again this week and i keep stressing about what i am getting done in the day. i will be a squirrel today i think!
How lovely that you commented on my poem, thank you 🙏 Be the squirrel today but tomorrow be the sleepy moth waiting for spring and the next day be the bending tree waiting for the right time to start growing again. I wish you all the best ❤
I love this, April! Such a good poem and such an important message. It’s a message I need to constantly remind myself of.
This poem also echoed the same sort of sentiment as the Taoist idea of Wu Wei (purposelessness)

Your a wise lady. I’m still working on accepting the whole acceptance thing wholeheartedly — but I’m trying.
It is great! Your in good company :)

Yes yes, gotta give everything it’s time :)

Perfect choice of words, yes we have been conned.
